AGALMA
Project Type
Photography
This piece came about through a turn of phrase used by Lacan in a seminar in which he likens the object of desire itself to an agalma aka a votive offering. Creating a shrine and offering which would decay much like a votive offering towards desire itself. A carnal manifestation of desire inaccessible to consumption, the fetishistic entity left to rot creating something new within the material, organic matter eventually fusing with photograph. The figure below praying, offering their own internal image on their back. The orange ink, made from orange peels is emblematic of the seeker who will never reach the whole of desire. A fruitless endeavour.
